Holodomor Commemoration & Mr. Jones Film Screening

Holodomor Commemoration & Mr. Jones Film Screening

Join the Ukrainian Association of Washington State on November 19, 2023, for a remembrance ceremony and movie screening event at the University of Washington with featured speakers, Andrea Chalupa, a Ukrainian American writer, podcaster, screenwriter, and producer of the award-winning journalistic thriller Mr. Jones, and Tetiana Soproniuk, a doctoral student at the Department of History of Ukraine of Nizhyn Mykola Gogol State University in Ukraine. We will also be joined by the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Bishop Benedict who will lead us in prayer for the victims of this man-made famine. We ask everyone to join us to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor, Stalin’s famine genocide that resulted in the murder by starvation of millions of Ukrainians in 1932–1933.

Each November, Ukrainians solemnly honor and pay tribute to the millions who suffered and died during the Holodomor: “death by hunger.” On this 90th anniversary, November 19th, we unite to honor the past and impart knowledge for the future. We are thankful to be partnering with Plast Seattle, Ukrainian Students United at UW, and Holodomor90 to make this event possible.
