Holodomor Commemoration – Minnesota State Capitol
At this important event, you will have an opportunity to hear from the descendants of the Holodomor survivors and hear the new Legislative Resolution co-sponsored by Senator Kari Dziedzic, the MN Senate Majority Leader, and Representative Sydney Jordan. You will also hear from public officials and elected representatives about the importance of honoring and preserving the memory of the Holodomor victims. There will be a special opportunity to view the traveling Holodomor exhibit explaining the connections between the historic genocide of Ukrainians, the Holodomor, and the current genocide fueled by Russia’s colonial ambitions.

Background information
In the spring of 2023, the MN legislature passed the K-12 Bill that mandated Holocaust and genocide studies to be embedded in the social studies curriculum. This means that the Holodomor, the genocide of Ukrainians in 1932-33 will become part of the MN Social Studies curriculum. Yet, not very many Minnesotans know about it.
